WSP Global has agreed to acquire Canadian engineering consultancy firm GCM Corpo, expanding its energy platform in Canada.
The Montreal-based engineering, science and infrastructure solutions firm said Thursday that the proposed acquisition of GCM Corpo supports several priority growth areas aligned with the company's broader strategic plan.
It said the acquisition will expand its core engineering consulting business and broaden access to clients in the energy and industrial sectors, including original equipment manufacturers.
WSP also expects the acquisition to strengthen capabilities in process engineering, industrial digitalization, operational technology cybersecurity, project and construction management, project procurement, detailed engineering and environmental services.
WSP will absorb about 600 professionals across its operating subsidiaries in Quebec, Western Canada and Atlantic Canada.
The company didn't disclose any financial details except that a part of the consideration will be paid in stock. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
Chief Executive Alexandre L'Heureux said that the acquisition is complementary and offers a strong strategic fit at a time when Canada's energy and industrial sectors are evolving rapidly.
"Welcoming GCM Corpo will enhance our position across the energy and industrial value chain and expand our ability to partner with clients on some of the country's most important and complex projects," L'Heureux said.
