Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Softer Wednesday Afternoon

01:40 PM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Healthcare stocks declined Wednesday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index easing 0.3% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) shedding 0.4%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.5%. In corporate news, Eli Lilly (LLY) on Wednesday reported positive results from a phase 2b trial of its investigational combination of eloralintide and tirzepatide in 367 obese or overweight adults with type 2 diabetes. All combinations of EloraTZP met the primary and secondary endpoints at 48 weeks, delivering "substantial" weight loss and A1C reduction, the company said. Lilly shares were down slightly. Moderna (MRNA) has appointed Juan Andres to the newly created role of chief operating officer, effective Oct. 5, the company said. Moderna shares were falling 6%. Sagimet Biosciences (SGMT) shares jumped 8% after licensing partner Ascletis BioScience said its oral acne treatment denifanstat met its primary safety endpoint in a 52-week study, paving the way for a US phase 3 trial.
