Bank of Montreal Closes Sale of 138 US Locations to First Citizens Bank

05:40 AM EDT, 09/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Bank of Montreal (BMO) has completed the sale of 138 US branches to First-Citizens Bank & Trust, the company said late Friday. The company said the branches are located across North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Idaho, along with select locations in Minnesota, Oregon and Illinois. BMO said the sale will help streamline its US branch network and redirect resources toward markets with stronger growth potential.
