JPMorgan maintains a "Neutral" rating on BioNTech, with a target price of $92.

According to Zhitong Finance APP, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Annual Meeting was held in Madrid, Spain from October 23 to 27. After attending the conference, J.P. Morgan released a research report on BioNTech (BNTX.US). At the beginning of the summary, JPMorgan stated its conclusion clearly: the batch of updates at ESMO was "positive, but considering the dataset is still at an early to mid-stage and the key readout timelines—especially pumitamig, which won’t happen until 2028-2030 or later—our view remains essentially unchanged." JPMorgan maintains a "Neutral" rating on BioNTech with a target price of $92.

After post-conference communication with the company, the bank confirmed that BioNTech is focusing its efforts on combination therapies, with pumitamig as the main backbone—typically combined with B7H3 ADC. The summary then discusses several key presentations at the conference one by one.

Taking a step back, JPMorgan’s attitude is a wait-and-see approach: although a substantial portion of BioNTech’s market cap is backed by its cash balance, they are not in a hurry to engage at current levels until pipeline visibility becomes clearer.

pumitamig: First Phase II Data in Second-Line Lung Cancer, Significantly Outperforming Docetaxel Standard

ROSETTA Lung-107 is a global phase II study evaluating pumitamig (a PD-L1×VEGF-A bispecific immunomodulator jointly developed with Bristol-Myers Squibb) in combination with docetaxel in second-line non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who have progressed after immunotherapy plus chemotherapy. Among evaluable patients, the confirmed objective response rate (cORR) was 37%, and median progression-free survival (mPFS) reached 6.9 months (data cutoff July 10, 2026; median follow-up 12.2 weeks).

The comparator here is crucial: historically, the expected ORR for second-line docetaxel monotherapy is about 13%, with mPFS of 3.5–4 months. Responses occurred across all PD-L1 expression levels; breaking it down, squamous patients (n=7) had cORR/unconfirmed ORR of 57%, while non-squamous (n=23) saw 30%/39%.

On safety, JPMorgan considers it acceptable: 18% experienced grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events (TRAE) related to pumitamig, and 8% discontinued due to pumitamig-related TRAE; for adverse events of note, all bleeding events (16%) were grade 1, with no grade 3+ hypertension or proteinuria reported.

The bank’s conclusion is unsurprising—"adding pumitamig to docetaxel resulted in greater benefit, which we expected," and they believe this second-line data further supports pumitamig’s benefit in the global NSCLC population.

The timeline constraint is repeatedly emphasized: pumitamig is undergoing testing in four global phase III studies—first-line NSCLC (ROSETTA Lung-02, data expected in 2029), first-line NSCLC with PD-L1>50% (ROSETTA Lung-202, in or after 2030), consolidation after chemo-radiation for unresectable stage III NSCLC (ROSETTA Lung-201, in or after 2030), and first-line small cell lung cancer (ROSETTA Lung-01, 2028).

BNT324 (B7H3 ADC): Combination Data More Impressive, 6mg/kg Is the Favored Dose

BNT324 is an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) targeting B7-H3. The conference presented updated phase II monotherapy data in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC), as well as the first combination data with pumitamig in PROC.

The combination yielded an eye-catching number: cORR of 71% (two responses pending confirmation), median follow-up of 6.5 months (data cutoff September 4, 2026; n=31).

For monotherapy, the 6mg/kg every-three-week regimen was seen by JPMorgan as the preferred dose—based on their discussions with the company and the fact that “only this dose has combination data with pumitamig.” For 16 patients at this dose, cORR was 50% (unconfirmed ORR 62.5%), median duration of response 6.9 months, mPFS 8.3 months. The 9mg/kg Q3W arm showed higher efficacy but also clearly greater toxicity—grade 3+ TRAE of 81%, compared to 44% in the 6mg group.

The conclusion: BNT324 demonstrates promising features as both monotherapy and in combination. While the monotherapy data is competitive, after communication with the company, JPMorgan feels BNT324’s priority lies in combination with pumitamig.

pumitamig+BNT324: Early Pan-tumor Activity, Liver Cancer Data Most Watched

This global phase II trial released the first results of pumitamig+BNT324 in multiple solid tumors, continuing from prior small cell lung cancer combination data presented at WCLC. The ESMO report included new early anti-tumor activity in head and neck cancer, melanoma, liver cancer, cervical cancer and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.

Median follow-up for the five tumor types ranged from 4.8 to 7.7 months; encouragingly, in patients previously treated with immunotherapy and/or Avastin (bevacizumab), unconfirmed and confirmed ORRs were similar to those in the overall population. Liver cancer (HCC) and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer data were especially highlighted: among 21 HCC patients (median 2 prior lines of therapy, 19 previously treated with IO/Avastin), the combination’s unconfirmed ORR/ORR was 43%/38%. Safety was manageable, with no dose-limiting toxicity (DLT), and overall adverse events consistent with known profiles of the agents.

gotistobart: Melanoma No Longer a Priority, Focus Shifts to Phase III Head-to-Head Study

BioNTech also presented longer follow-up phase I/II data for gotistobart combined with pembrolizumab in relapsed/refractory melanoma after prior CTLA-4 and PD-(L)1 therapies: cORR/mPFS for the 3mg/kg group (n=22) was 18%/2.6 months, and for 6mg/kg (n=27) was 22%/2.1 months.

While the two arms showed similar ORR and mPFS, median overall survival was highly variable: 28 months for the 3mg/kg arm (33 months’ follow-up), 11 months for the 6mg/kg arm (41 months’ follow-up).

After communication with the company, JPMorgan clarified: melanoma (post-IO) is no longer a priority for gotistobart. The main focus is the phase III head-to-head study—gotistobart monotherapy versus docetaxel in second-line squamous NSCLC, with overall survival as the primary endpoint and topline data expected this year.

Valuation and Stance

This note makes no adjustments to rating or target price. JPMorgan reiterates its “Neutral” rating and $92 target price, implying about 5.9% upside from the current $86.86—on the more conservative side among covering institutions. JPMorgan’s cautious stance is not about valuation per se but the timing: key readouts for core assets cluster in 2028–2030, while current data are still early- to mid-stage, small-sample, and short follow-up.

JPMorgan also points out a structural fact: a considerable portion of BioNTech’s market cap is supported by its cash balance—which means downside risk is buffered, but the share price is more reliant on future pipeline delivery. Until the data becomes clearer, the bank chooses not to act in haste. It should be noted that this memo does not separately list upside/downside risks or valuation methodology parameters (such as DCF, WACC, etc.), as it is a conference summary rather than a full rating report.

"We've seen this pattern before!" Major short seller explains: Why short the AI newcomer CoreWeave

Seawolf Capital, founded by three traders who inspired "The Big Short," has established a short position on CoreWeave, citing concerns over high capital consumption, the uncertain economic lifespan of GPUs, and the expansion of competing chip supplies, which pose risks to CoreWeave’s business model. More critically, CoreWeave will require continuous financing of tens of billions of dollars in the future, and if financing costs rise or access to capital is hindered, its operations will become unsustainable. This short position is not a bet against the AI industry itself, but rather on CoreWeave’s ability to secure financing and manage capital costs.
