NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is conducting a high-density visit to Europe, announcing an investment plan of over $2 billions to be unveiled within a week. Combined with the $8 billions already invested over the past year, NVIDIA continues to deepen its strategic presence in Europe. Huang advocates for an open-source AI approach to help Europe close the technology gap, and has provided funding to four French startups in the fields of healthcare, business software, chemical materials, and robotics.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is undertaking a high-intensity visit across Europe and is set to announce over $2 billion in European investment plans within the coming week.

On Tuesday, October 13, at an event in Paris, Huang revealed that these $2 billion in investments will be announced gradually over the next week. Together with the $8 billion NVIDIA has already invested in continental Europe over the past year, the company’s strategic presence in Europe is continually deepening.

He also announced a new round of funding for French startups Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic. Following the Paris stop, Huang will visit London and Berlin.

These moves come at a time when AI technology is facing growing public skepticism in Europe. From risks of AI model mismanagement to the environmental impact of energy-hungry data centers, both Europe and the UK are proactively seeking to play a larger role in global AI governance.

Huang made it clear that he opposes calls to slow AI development, emphasizing that AI will boost the economy and can progress safely.

Jensen Huang Promotes the Open Source Path

Huang said candidly at the Paris event:

Europe needs to get involved.

He introduced open source models to Europe, arguing that this approach features lower costs and greater adaptability, and can help Europe close the gap with advanced American AI.

NVIDIA is a key partner of French AI startup Mistral AI. Mistral focuses on open-weight AI development; not only did NVIDIA invest in the company, it also supplies acceleration chips for its data centers. Mistral’s latest model runs on 4,000 Grace Blackwell chips.

Huang commented:

Open source models are significant—they can be customized for different languages and sovereign needs.

His recent series of investments continues to point toward open source, aiming to expand AI applications within the global economy and reduce market dependence on products from a few major tech companies.

Four French Startups Receive Investment, Robotics Sector in the Spotlight

The four French startups receiving investment this time cover the medical, business software, chemical materials, and robotics fields.

Doctolib is one of France’s most prominent startups. Founded in 2013, it primarily provides administrative services for doctors and healthcare workers and has become a key platform for patient appointments across Europe.

Earlier this year, the company completed a secondary share transfer worth about €300 million (approximately $345 million), with a valuation of about €3.6 billion—a significant drop from its last publicly disclosed valuation of €5.8 billion in 2022.

Pigment develops AI-driven enterprise business software; Entalpic applies AI to research in chemistry and materials. Genesis AI focuses on robotics AI, closely aligning with Huang’s previous views on the humanoid robotics sector.

He predicts that embodied AI, represented by humanoid robots, will become NVIDIA’s next major market.
