Driven by SpaceX’s record-breaking initial public offering, increased defense spending, and the expansion of space infrastructure, global investment in the space economy is expected to exceed $100 billion for the first time in 2026. This forecast comes from investment firm Space Capital’s latest analysis of third-quarter investment activity. The report not only highlights the massive capital flowing into the space sector but also notes that the number of space companies reaching unicorn valuations has reached an all-time high. Chad Anderson, CEO of Space Capital, stated: “We all thought the market in 2021 was incredibly hot,” referring to the SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) boom at the time. “But compared with what’s happening now, that was just a minor episode.” Nearly all signs point to SpaceX as the driver of this investment surge. Anderson explained that SpaceX’s record-setting IPO this summer may prompt investors to reassess the value of other space companies, viewing their significance as greater than previously anticipated.
