Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Lower Late Afternoon
MT newswire2026/10/07 19:5703:57 PM EDT, 10/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were softer late Wednesday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) down 0.1% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) shedding 0.3%. In corporate news, Toyota Motor (TM) shares were down 1.4% after the firm said it is recalling about 31,000 vehicles in the US, involving some model year 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid units, because a fault in an electronic control unit can shut down the plug-in hybrid system while driving. Constellation Brands (STZ) late Tuesday reiterated its full-year adjusted profit outlook and reported an unexpected increase in fiscal Q2 earnings. Shares rose 2.4%. Walt Disney's (DIS) Disney+ will livestream Super Bowl LXI on Feb. 14, 2027, joining ABC and ESPN, which will also broadcast the game, Disney said Wednesday. Shares added 0.8%. Booking (BKNG) could face a US Federal Trade Commission probe over affiliate Priceline.com's online ads that appear to lead consumers to a hotel's website but direct them to a third-party site, where they are often charged more, Reuters reported. Shares were down 1.1%. Shake Shack (SHAK) said Wednesday that it plans to enter the Brazilian market through a new licensing partnership with Bold Hospitality. Shares were shedding 0.4%.
