S&P/TSX Composite Index Higher as Oil Prices, Bond Yields Edge Down
MT newswire2026/10/06 14:3710:37 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P/TSX Composite Index was higher mid-morning Tuesday, with mixed sectors, as oil prices and bond yields edged down. US 10-year bond yields edged down near 2-basis points to 5.294%, while 30-year yields were flat at 5.664%. Higher Middle East crude oil exports also contributed to lower oil prices, and pressuring the energy sector, which was down 0.6%, on last look. The strongest performer was the telecom sector, which advanced 0.8%. In stocks, Emera (EMA.TO), and ATCO (ACO-X.TO) subsidiary, Canadian Utilities (CU.TO), will merge to form a Top 20 North American utility, with CA$72 billion in combined enterprise value and six million customers, the companies said this morning. ATCO shares were last seen up 11.2% to CA$82.54. Canadian Utilities shares were down CA$0.05, to CA$51.15 and Emera was down CA$1.88, to CA$66.42.
