MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/06 14:20

10:20 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The first look at consumer confidence for October improved from September, with the RealClearMarkets' monthly index rising to 46.8 from 45.6 in the previous month on increases in all three of its components. A reading above 50 suggests optimism, while a reading below 50 suggests pessimism. The six-month outlook index rose to 42.7 in October from 41.3 in September, the outlook for personal finances increased to 53.4 from 52.7 and the measure of confidence in Federal Economic Policies increased to 44.4 from 42.9. The Financial Related Stress Index declined to 64.5 in October from 64.7 in September, an indication of decreased financial concerns. "Every measure of optimism improved in October, but the divide over who is feeling it has never been wider," said Raghavan Mayur, the head of polling company TechnoMetrica. The survey data showed that despite the rise in the index to the best reading since March, investor optimism climbed to 62.3 while non-investors optimism slipped to 37.2, the widest gap between the two groups on record, Mayur noted.
