Viking Therapeutics Initiates Trial of VK2735 Maintenance Dosing Regimens in Obesity
MT newswire2026/10/06 11:5407:54 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Viking Therapeutics (VKTX) said Tuesday it has begun a clinical trial to explore oral and additional subcutaneous VK2735 dosing regimens to maintain initial weight loss in patients with obesity. The maintenance dosing trial is the second of a two-part study initiated in 2025 and aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile of VK2735 under various dosing regimens. Viking said that 195 adult participants will receive initial weekly subcutaneous doses of VK2735 or placebo for 21 weeks, after which they will transition to a range of VK2735 maintenance dosing options. The exploratory endpoints of the study will assess changes in body weight from baseline and from Week 21 to the end of the study at Week 33, it said. Shares of the company were up 1.4% in Tuesday's premarket activity.
