US Dollar Extends Rally Against The Loonie as Treasury Yields Stay High
MT newswire2026/10/05 17:4401:44 PM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar pared gains after tapping an 18-month high against the Canadian currency on Monday afternoon, as US Treasury bond yields stayed elevated at multi-decade highs. The greenback was last seen up 0.1% at CA$1.4256, after reaching a session peak at CA$1.4294, the highest since April 2025. The US 10-year and 30-year treasury yields were still at more than 20-year highs: 10-year yields rose 7 basis points to 5.345%, while 30-year bonds climbed 7 basis points to 5.701%. Comex gold futures for December edged down 0.2% to $4,153.80 per ounce. Oil prices were also lower. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark fell 1.2% to $90.03 per barrel. December Brent crude futures slid 1.6% to $100.65 per barrel.
