Canada's International Reserves Decline $2.1 Billion in September to $125.3 Billion
MT newswire2026/10/05 16:4612:46 PM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canada's official international reserves fell by $2.1 billion in September to $125.3 billion from $127.4 billon in August, Canada's Finance Department said Monday. The decline mainly reflected net investment losses, compounded by losses from reserves management operations, the department said in a note. Liquid reserves, comprising securities and deposits, stood at $95.2 billion, it added. The currency composition was dominated by US dollars at $63.4 billion, followed by euros at $16.4 billion, sterling at $8.5 billion and yen at $6.9 billion. Special drawing rights (SDR) amounted to $23.7 billion, while the IMF reserve position stood at $ 4.1 billion.
