11:44 AM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- GE HealthCare Technologies (GEHC) said Monday that it agreed to acquire Sofie Biosciences from private equity firm Trilantic North America for $945 million, as the medical device maker seeks to expand its US operations. Sofie is a positron emission tomography, or PET, radiopharmaceuticals company. PET is mostly used in patients with brain or heart conditions and cancer, helping visualize biochemical changes in the body. The privately held company will join GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics unit, which makes imaging agents used to support medical procedures. "The PET radiopharmaceutical market is expanding rapidly with the introduction of innovative radiotracers and advances in precision care, including the growing adoption of targeted therapies," Kevin O'Neill, chief executive of GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics division, said. "As part of GE HealthCare, Sofie Biosciences is expected to grow in the low double digits, and enables us to participate across the radiopharmaceutical value stream, meeting customer demand through a mix of GE HealthCare owned and partner facilities," he said. The deal grants GE HealthCare US rights for a late-stage experimental PET imaging agent FAPI-74, which shows potential for use across oncologic and non-oncologic indications. GE HealthCare already holds rights for the asset outside the US. Sofie has 15 contract manufacturing organization sites operating 21 cyclotrons, and a theranostics-focused contract development and manufacturing organization site. GE HealthCare expects the deal to be accretive to revenue growth and adjusted earnings per share in the first full year after completion. Sofie manufactures for rivals like Lantheus (LNTH), posing some customer "attrition risk," Needham analysts said in a note Monday. Radiopharmaceuticals company Curium agreed to acquire Lantheus for up to $8 billion in August. Shares of GE Healthcare were up 0.9% in Monday trade, but have fallen about 21% this year. GE HealthCare completed its $2.3 billion acquisition of medical imaging software provider Intelerad in March. In late July, GE HealthCare affirmed its full-year outlook after second-quarter results topped Wall Street's estimates, driven by order growth across every segment. Last week, RBC Capital Markets said it was bullish on GE HealthCare, driven by factors including new product cycles and mid-teens growth in its pharmaceutical diagnostics unit.
