Nutrien to Indefinitely Shut Down Its Trinidad Nitrogen Operations
MT newswire2026/10/05 15:4011:40 AM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Nutrien (NTR.TO) will indefinitely shut down its nitrogen operations at the Point Lisas Facility in Trinidad, following a strategic alternatives review caused by natural gas constraints, the company said on Monday. Nutrien had previously implemented a controlled shutdown of the facility on Oct. 23, 2025, due to port access restrictions and a lack of reliable and economic natural gas supply. There will be no impact to Nutrien's 2026 nitrogen sales volume guidance as the company assumed no production from its Trinidad Nitrogen operations, a statement said. The company said it can meet customer demand for nitrogen and grow volumes from its North American nitrogen assets. In June, Methanex (MX.TO) announced plans to idle its Titan methanol facility in Trinidad and Tobago after it was unable to secure a new natural gas contract for the plant. Titan's existing natural gas contract expired in the third quarter of this year. Nutrien shares were last seen down CA$0.62 to CA$99.35 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
