Nutrien to Permanently Shut Down Trinidad Nitrogen Plant Amid Gas Supply Woes
MT newswire2026/10/05 12:4708:47 AM EDT, 10/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Nutrien (NTR) said Monday that it will indefinitely shut down its Trinidad Nitrogen operations at the Point Lisas Facility following a review of strategic alternatives. The fertilizer producer cited ongoing natural gas constraints and supply uncertainty. Nutrien said it had placed the facility in a controlled shutdown in October of last year due to port restrictions and unreliable, uneconomic gas supplies. The company said the closure will not affect its 2026 nitrogen sales volume guidance, as production from Trinidad was already excluded from the forecast.
