French government bonds under pressure as widening spread between France and Germany raises concerns
智通财经2026/10/05 10:06Hauke Siemssen from Commerzbank stated in a report that the dynamics of the eurozone bond market are becoming increasingly worrisome. On Friday, France's 10-year government bond yield surged to a multi-year high due to fiscal concerns, and the yield spread with similar German bonds widened significantly. The market calmed down on Monday, with French government bond yields and yield spreads both below Friday's peak, but the trend persists: French government bond yields continue to rise while equivalent German bond yields are falling. Siemssen noted that the widening yield spread appears to be increasingly self-reinforcing, and the recent trend is somewhat reminiscent of the sovereign debt crisis. According to Tradeweb data, France's 10-year government bond yield rose by 4.9 basis points to 4.906%, below Friday's peak of 4.993%. The France-Germany 10-year bond yield spread was at 145.90 basis points, lower than Friday's peak of 158.67 basis points. Going forward, attention should be paid to developments in France's fiscal policy and changes in market sentiment; if the yield spread continues to widen, it may put pressure on the eurozone bond market and overall risk appetite.
