Updated version 1 - The Financial Times reports that Starbucks once considered acquiring Chipotle

Reuters reported on October 8, citing sources from the Financial Times, that Starbucks (SBUX.O) had explored the possibility of acquiring Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG.N). As background, Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol previously led Chipotle and is widely credited with transforming the burrito chain into one of the strongest growth companies in the industry. Both Starbucks and Chipotle did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. Starbucks, with a market capitalization of around $39 billions, saw its share price decline by about 3%, while Chipotle’s stock price rose by approximately 4%.

BUZZ - Goldman Sachs turns bullish, Palantir shares rise

On October 8th, Palantir Technologies (stock code: PLTR.O), a data analytics software provider, saw its shares rise by 3.7% to $201.26 in early trading Thursday, after Goldman Sachs upgraded its rating from “Neutral” to “Buy.” The firm set a target price of $230, representing approximately an 18% upside from the previous trading day’s closing price. Goldman Sachs stated that, based on recent discussions with industry experts, its main conclusion is that the stock is expected to enter a new phase of outperformance before 2027. The bank noted that with PLTR shifting towards sovereign AI, customized applications, and its new verticalization strategy, its total addressable market “may be on the verge of another step-change in depth.” Goldman Sachs also mentioned that, given the stock’s underperformance in 2026, its enterprise value/free cash flow (EV/FCF) multiple is currently lower than that of peer growth companies. With Thursday’s rally, PLTR’s share price has increased about 13% this year, lagging behind the Nasdaq .IXIC index’s 18% gain; the current price is about 3% lower than the all-time intraday high of $207.52 set on November 3, 2025. According to LSEG data, among the 33 brokers covering the stock, 24 rate it as “Strong Buy” or “Buy,” 7 as “Hold,” and 2 as “Sell” or “Strong Sell.” The median target price is $212.50, up from $195 three months ago. BUZZ - JPMorgan downgrades HubSpot rating due to "uncertain outlook" amid recovery in revenue growth

On October 8, JPMorgan downgraded its rating for marketing software company HubSpot (HUBS.N) from “Overweight” to “Neutral,” and also lowered its price target from $268 to $240, which still represents a 23.6% upside from the previous trading day’s closing price. The report pointed out that the timeline for a recovery in revenue growth is “still unclear.” “Although HUBS shares have fallen by more than 40% so far this year, until there are clear signs that the growth slowdown has bottomed out, we do not expect to see renewed investor interest or a significant re-rating of the stock price,” said JPMorgan. Out of 37 brokerages, 13 rate the stock as “Buy” or higher, 23 as “Hold,” and 1 as “Sell”; the median price target is $250, according to Reuters compiled data. Including fluctuations on the day, the stock has declined by 45.2% year-to-date.
