Pacific Link Will Allow Canada to Reduce Dependence on US and Cultivate Asian Markets PM Carney Says

Today, 90% of Alberta's oil goes to the US. Pacific Link will "materially" reduce that dependence by allowing Canada to export an additional 1 million barrels a day to growing markets in Asia. The line will carry oil-sands bitumen 1,200 kilometers from near Edmonton, Alberta, to a port in southern British Columbia. The federal Major Projects Office is expected to finalize Pacific Link conditions, including ownership and environmental protections, by Sept. 1, 2027 Pacific Link project is estimated to create 140,000 jobs across the country, spanning engineers to pipe fitters to welders. It is estimated it will generate over CA$20 billion in GDP per year and over CA$60 billion in government revenue by 2060.
