Lilly Says Trial of Weight-Loss Pill Foundayo Shows Sharp Reduction of Developing Diabetes, Heart Risks

08:37 AM EDT, 10/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Eli Lilly (LLY) said Thursday that a post-hoc analysis of a trial of Foundayo found that the weight-loss drug significantly reduced the 10-year risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease in obese or overweight patients. The company said the phase 3 trial compared the efficacy and safety of Foundayo 5.5mg, 9mg and 17.2mg as a monotherapy to treat patients who do not have diabetes but have hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, or cardiovascular disease. Trial participants taking the highest dose had a 57% reduction in type 2 diabetes risk and an 18% reduction in heart disease risk compared to a placebo, the company said.
