Eli Lilly Weight-Loss Drug Foundayo Meets Primary Endpoint in Phase 3 Trial

04:58 AM EDT, 10/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Eli Lilly's (LLY) weight-loss drug, Foundayo, has met the primary endpoint in a phase 3 trial of adult patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity or overweight who are at increased cardiovascular risk, the drug company said. Foundayo, an FDA-approved, once-daily oral GLP-1 drug, demonstrated a non-inferior risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, but improved blood-sugar levels, weight and other measures of cardio-metabolic health, when compared with insulin glargine, said Lilly. At 52 weeks, patients taking Foundayo had an average 8.8% reduction in body weight, compared with a 1.7% increase for those taking insulin glargine, the company said. Among other results, Foundayo showed a 53% lower risk of cardiovascular death and a 57% lower risk of all-cause death versus insulin glargine, suggesting the potential for more comprehensive health benefits, Lilly said. The company said that at 104 weeks, 54.6% of Foundayo patients had reduced their average blood sugar level to 6.5% or lower, compared with 23.8% for insulin glargine. The results were presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting in Milan and published in The Lancet, Lilly said.
