Asian stock markets are expected to open with volatility on the first trading day of October. Previously, Wall Street experienced significant fluctuations in late trading, erasing the gains driven by lower-than-expected US inflation data. Meanwhile, US crude oil prices continued the upward trend from the previous trading day. On Thursday, Asian stock index futures indicated that the South Korean and Australian stock markets may decline, while the Japanese market is expected to rise.
Chris Osmond, Chief Investment Officer of Fifth Third Wealth Advisors, stated that the data released on Wednesday presented a "Goldilocks-style mix": economic growth in the second quarter was stronger than expected, consumer spending was more robust, there was a marked rebound in the September job market, and the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation indicator was far below expectations. Overall, this data supports risk assets and significantly lowers the probability of a rate hike in October, but the possibility of a rate increase in the fourth quarter still remains.
However, inflation concerns have not disappeared. The Middle East conflict, the investment boom in artificial intelligence, and a strong US economy continue to push up prices and bond yields, and the global government bond market may record its worst quarterly performance since 2024.
