MDU Resources Approves Construction of Bakken East Pipeline

05:09 PM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- MDU Resources (MDU) said late Wednesday that its board reached a final investment decision for subsidiary WBI Energy to proceed with construction of the Bakken East Pipeline Project in North Dakota. The roughly 350-mile pipeline will run from the Bakken region in western North Dakota to near Fargo and will have an initial design capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day. Construction is expected from 2028 through 2030, with the first phase due in late 2029 and the second in late 2030, while the $2.7 billion to $3.2 billion project will include additions and modifications at three existing compressor stations and the construction of four new ones. MDU Resources said it is evaluating debt and equity financing options for the project, including potential partnership agreements.
