US Dollar Higher Against the Canadian Dollar as Bond Yields Stay High

01:30 PM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose to the highest level since July 2 against the Canadian currency on Wednesday afternoon, as US Treasury bond yields continued their ascent. The greenback was last seen up 0.22% at CA$1.4217. The US 10-year treasury yield was last seen up 5.9 basis points to 5.308%, a near 25-year high, while US 30-year bonds jumped 8.0 basis points to 5.651%, the highest level since October 2001. Comex gold futures for December advanced 0.2% to $4,186.30 per ounce. Oil prices were higher Wednesday afternoon. Reuters reported OPEC+ producers were likely to keep their oil production targets steady for November when they meet on Sunday. The Reuters report cited two unnamed sources. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark advanced 2% to $90.99 per barrel. November Brent crude futures rose 1% to $103.62 per barrel.
