US Dollar Falls Early Wednesday Ahead of September ADP Private Payrolls
07:36 AM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar fell against its major trading partners early Wednesday ahead of the release of ADP private payrolls data for September at 8:15 am ET. GDP data for Q2 and personal income, spending, and price data for August, including annual revisions, will be released at 8:30 am ET, at the same time as advance trade data for August. The Chicago PMI report for September is due to be released at 9:45 am ET, followed by weekly oil stocks data at 10:30 am ET and an update to the Atlanta Federal Reserve's GDP nowcast estimate around midday. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin is due to speak at 1:30 pm ET, followed by Fed Governor Lisa Cook at 3:25 pm ET, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee at 5:10 pm ET, and Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari at 6:00 pm ET. Earlier Wednesday, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported that average 30-year fixed mortgage rates hit their highest point since November 2023, pushing down both refinancing activity and new home applications. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Wednesday: EUR/USD rose to 1.1358 from 1.1336 at the Tuesday US close and 1.1346 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Wednesday's schedule, but European Central Bank policy board member Isabel Schnabel is due to speak at 11:45 am ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Oct. 29. GBP/USD rose to 1.3288 from 1.3228 at the Tuesday US close and 1.3241 at the same time Tuesday morning. UK GDP growth slowed in Q2, but the year-over-year rate accelerated, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5. USD/JPY fell to 157.0481 from 157.3711 at the Tuesday US close and 157.2691 at the same time Tuesday morning. Japanese industrial production fell sharply in August, while Japanese construction orders declined in the same month, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Oct. 30. USD/CAD fell to 1.4181 from 1.4192 at the Tuesday US close and 1.4189 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Canadian data on Wednesday's schedule. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28.
