Hormel Foods to Buy Brakebush Brothers for $1.055 Billion

Hormel Foods has struck a deal to buy Brakebush Brothers, a family-owned value-added processor of chicken products, for about $1.055 billion.
Hormel on Wednesday said Brakebush generated around $1.2 billion in sales over the last 12 months, and that the acquisition advances Hormel's strategy of investing in growing protein categories.
The Austin, Minn., maker of Spam lunch meat and Skippy peanut butter said it expects the Brakebush acquisition will expand its position in value-added chicken and bolster its foodservice platform through enhanced operator relationships and an expanded direct-sales organization.
The deal is slated to close during Hormel's fiscal first quarter, which ends in late January.
