02:25 PM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with latest market prices and developments.) US benchmark equity indexes were lower intraday, while bond yields rose as investors evaluated the latest economic data, including a report showing the lowest consumer confidence reading in more than a decade. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.5% at 51,209.6 after midday Tuesday, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.3% to 7,660.4. The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.2% to 26,764.8. Barring utilities, all sectors were in the red, led by energy. Treasury yields were higher, with the 10-year rate up 3.9 basis points at 5.28% and the two-yield rate rising 1.3 basis point to 4.94%. In economic news, US consumer confidence tumbled this month to the lowest level since 2014 as Americans turned pessimistic amid elevated energy prices, the Conference Board said. "With high gasoline prices weighing on both (consumers') real disposable income and their confidence, we expect the pace of spending to slow over the next few quarters," Oxford Economics said in a note. US job openings fell in August amid a sharp decline in professional and business services, while overall hiring ticked higher, official data showed. US home price growth accelerated annually in July, though values were down in real terms for a 14th straight month as inflation continued to outpace price gains, S&P Global (SPGI) division S&P Dow Jones Indices said. West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down 2.2% at $90.29 a barrel intraday, while Brent lost 1.5% to $103.73. In company news, Fair Isaac (FICO) shares tumbled nearly 26%, the worst performer on the S&P 500. On Monday, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte said on X that VantageScore will join the existing FICO classic mortgage pricing grid. CarMax (KMX) reported stronger-than-expected fiscal second-quarter revenue Tuesday, buoyed by a double-digit increase in comparable used-vehicle sales amid early momentum in the company's growth plan. The used-vehicle retailer's shares were up 3.8%. Smart ring maker Oura delayed its planned initial public offering, joining a growing list of companies that are postponing plans to go public in the US amid market uncertainty. Spot gold edged up 0.8% to $4,146.39 per troy ounce, while silver lost 0.9% to $61.18 per ounce.
