Reuters, September 24 - Qualcomm (QCOM.O) said on Thursday that it has extended its chip licensing agreement with Apple (AAPL.O), which will take effect on April 1 next year.
The partnership between the two companies stems from a 2019 settlement agreement that ended two years of global legal disputes over wireless patent royalties and modem chip supply issues. In April 2019, just as a US jury trial in San Diego was about to begin, the two companies announced a settlement.
According to the settlement, Apple paid Qualcomm an undisclosed sum, both parties withdrew lawsuits globally, and agreed to sign a six-year worldwide patent licensing agreement starting from April 1, 2019.
The agreement grants Apple an option to extend the license by two years. Neither company commented on requests regarding details of the agreement.
