Linera Shutdown Follows Failed $1.5M Token Sale on Sonar Platform

  • Linera refunded 848,300 USDC after its token sale missed minimum requirements.
  • Emergency funding talks failed, forcing immediate operational cuts before mainnet launch.
  • Recorded community points carry no guaranteed token rights or financial benefits.

Linera shutdown plans began after its Sonar token sale secured 848,300 USDC, missing the required 1.5 million USDC minimum. The Layer 1 project refunded every commitment because the offering could not close. Founder Mathieu Baudet then said operations would cease immediately after emergency funding talks failed. Applications and the Discord community will now close.

Linera Shutdown Follows Sonar Token Sale Shortfall

Wu Blockchain reported the sale attracted nearly $900,000 but remained about 651,700 USDC below its minimum. Participants received no LNRA tokens because Sonar returned all committed funds. Linera had disclosed the refund condition before opening the offering.

Baudet said the team approached potential backers for emergency financing. Those talks did not provide enough capital to preserve development or reach mainnet. The Linera shutdown therefore reflects a funding shortfall rather than a disclosed technical failure.

Other investors included GSR, Flow Traders, Tribe Capital, Matrixport Ventures, Laser Digital, Signum Capital, Kima Ventures, and DFG. Those rounds financed hiring, testnet development, and planned expansion before the public sale failed.

Linera Shutdown Leaves Mainnet and User Points Uncertain

The team will close project applications and take its Discord community offline. However, it still hopes to finish the protocol and launch applications later. No financing source or revised timetable has been announced.

Existing community points will remain recorded, but Linera promised no token conversion, financial value, or other rights. This leaves points separate from refunded sale commitments.

The project was designed around microchains, which process separate workloads in parallel. Linera’s documentation presents that model as infrastructure for fast, real-time applications and markets. Baudet previously worked on Meta’s Novi wallet project.

Linera’s website remained live after the announcement and continued listing 24/7 crypto and ETF markets. The site identifies Zefchain Labs as the operator.

Linera shutdown leaves the mainnet unfinished while the team closes services. Developers received no schedule for continued protocol work or application access.
