Democrats Threaten to Derail Crypto’s Biggest Regulatory Push: 5 Altcoins to Watch Before Washington Makes Its Move

  • The CLARITY Act needs 60 Senate votes to advance, making Democratic support critical.
  • Senator Warren and other Democrats continue to challenge the revised ethics provisions.
  • SUI, XRP, HBAR, LINK, and ONDO could experience volatility as traders assess regulatory and macroeconomic risks.

The U.S. Senate’s latest fight over crypto regulation has placed the CLARITY Act at another critical point, with Democratic opposition threatening to complicate efforts to secure the 60 votes required for advancement. Senator Elizabeth Warren has rejected the latest ethics provisions, arguing that the revised language does not go far enough to address potential conflicts involving President Donald Trump and his family’s crypto interests.

Republican senators released a revised version of the CLARITY Act after negotiations focused heavily on ethics rules, stablecoin rewards, and protections for blockchain developers. The latest proposal gives state attorneys general additional enforcement authority over certain conflict-of-interest provisions, while also introducing other changes requested during negotiations.

But the changes have failed to get any clear bipartisan traction so far before the procedural vote on Tuesday. Several Democrats, including Warren, have raised doubts about the proposed ethics framework’s teeth when it comes to enforcing it against public officials who have substantial digital-asset holdings. Also, Senator Mark Warner said the new measures are not enough. The issue has importance because Republicans have 53 seats in the Senate, with at least seven of the Democrats required to reach 60 votes and stop the filibuster. Failure to make that mark could be another setback, but it wouldn’t be fatal for the bill.

SUI Could Face Volatility Around the Vote

Among the altcoins traders are likely to watch is Sui, given rising regulatory uncertainty. SUI has already seen volatility from a token unlock, exchange news, and an oracle incident, adding to near-term uncertainty. However, if wider market mood turns negative after the Senate decision, SUI may not be safe, as big swings in prices tend to happen in higher-beta altcoins during uncertain times.

XRP Remains Closely Tied to U.S. Regulation

XRP could also attract attention because regulatory developments in the United States remain particularly important for large payment-focused digital assets. A clearer division between SEC and CFTC responsibilities could eventually influence how major cryptocurrencies are classified and traded.

For XRP, however, the immediate issue remains market reaction rather than any guaranteed benefit from the legislation. Traders could continue watching volume, support levels, and broader Bitcoin direction before making decisions.

HBAR and LINK Offer Different Exposure

Hedera and Chainlink represent different areas of the crypto market, which could make them relevant additions to a regulatory-focused watchlist. HBAR is associated with enterprise-oriented distributed ledger applications, while LINK provides infrastructure connecting blockchain networks with external data and applications.

Neither project is directly dependent on the CLARITY Act passing, meaning their longer-term performance could ultimately depend more heavily on adoption, network activity, liquidity, and broader market conditions.

ONDO Could Benefit From Continued RWA Attention

ONDO remains another altcoin worth monitoring because tokenized real-world assets have become an important theme within the digital-asset market. Regulatory clarity could eventually influence how tokenized financial products are developed and offered in the United States.

For investors, the CLARITY Act therefore represents only one part of the equation. The Federal Reserve’s upcoming decision, Bitcoin’s direction, liquidity conditions, and broader risk appetite could also determine whether these altcoins gain momentum.
