August Retail Sales Due for Robust Recovery -- Market Talk

Dow JonesDow Jones2026/09/14 15:23

1123 ET - August's retail sales, due Wednesday, should see a rebound from a sharp drop in July, according to an analysis from BofA. A positive reading paired with August's better-than-expected jobs report should reassure investors the economy was stronger than July's jobs report and retail sales suggested. The slide in July retail sales was due to Prime Day and related promotions shifting to June from July this year, BofA says. In August, total BAC card spending per household was up 4.5% year-over-year, according to the economists. Overall, August retail sales are expected to climb 0.8% according to WSJ consensus versus a 0.6% decline in July.(jessica.coacci@wsj.com)
