Leveraged traders responded to a sharp decline in Zcash (ZEC) by rushing to close their positions, resulting in significant liquidations as the token dropped 16% from its latest high. Total liquidations connected to ZEC reached $28.37 million in the past 24 hours, according to recent market data. Of this total, $23.75 million involved long positions, while $4.62 million came from short liquidations.

Bullish traders caught amid rapid sell-off

This substantial imbalance highlights the aggressive positioning by bullish traders, who anticipated further upside but instead faced losses as the price abruptly reversed. During the steepest part of the sell-off, selling pressure intensified, leading to liquidations totaling $11.49 million within just 12 hours.

Within that window, $9.40 million came from long positions. The swift change in market sentiment was further reflected in the four-hour tally, with $1.34 million in liquidations, including $1.19 million from shorts. This demonstrated how quickly optimism shifted to caution as the rally lost steam.

In a period of high volatility, liquidations for ZEC reached $28.37 million over 24 hours, with most of the losses affecting long traders aggressively positioned during the token’s recent surge.

ZEC remains above key technical levels

Despite the rapid deleveraging and liquidations, ZEC continues to trade above important technical indicators on the daily chart. The current price holds well above the 50-day and 100-day moving averages, which stand at approximately $689 and $646, respectively. The 20-day moving average is close to $910, while the longer-term trend remains anchored near $531.

These figures underscore the extent of the recent rally, which saw ZEC climb from below $500 to surpass $1,200 within a matter of weeks. The widening gap between ZEC’s value and these moving averages reflects both the scale of the price movement and the heightened risk environment for highly leveraged traders.

Moving Average Current Value
20-day $910
50-day $689
100-day $646
Long-term $531

Momentum and risk outlook

The Relative Strength Index (RSI), which recently indicated overbought conditions, has cooled to around 64. While still above the neutral threshold, the reading signals waning momentum following the intense rally. This shift gives market participants little room for complacency in the near term.

Traders now appear focused on the $1,050 to $1,100 price zone as a key support area for ZEC. If the token consolidates above this level, it could attempt another recovery. However, a sustained move below this band would raise the likelihood of a further decline toward the $910 moving average.

Following the extraordinary price surge, the current liquidation events may represent a wider market reset. Until volatility stabilizes and buyers regain control, ZEC is likely to remain exposed to swift and unpredictable price swings.
