Trump has pledged that if the Republican Party wins the midterm elections, every citizen across the country will receive $5,000. This has injected new uncertainty into the bond market ahead of the U.S. 30-year Treasury bond auction, reigniting concerns about U.S. fiscal discipline and erratic policy decisions. After Trump made this promise, U.S. Treasury yields fluctuated within a narrow range. Trump did not provide any details, and this proposal is considered unlikely to become law. Trump made these remarks as the 30-year U.S. Treasury yield is approaching its highest level since the global financial crisis. Previously, the U.S. government planned to purchase up to $600 million in longer-term Treasuries in a single round, which disappointed some market investors. Currently, all eyes are on the $2.2 billion in 2056-maturing Treasuries to be issued on Thursday, as well as the CPI data to be released later this week.
