Canada's Field Crop Stocks Rise Sharply As Of End-July, Led by Wheat, Peas and Lentils

10:18 AM EDT, 09/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canadian wheat stocks surged 57% year over year to 6.6 million tonnes at the end of the 2025-2026 crop year, fueled by record production, according to the country's statistical agency on Wednesday. Dry pea stocks soared 142% to 1.2 million tonnes by July 31, while lentil stocks more than doubled to 1.3 million tonnes, Statistics Canada wrote in a statement. Canola stocks rose 19% to 1.9 million tonnes as exports fell 4.5% amid weaker Chinese demand following tariffs, added StatsCan. Industrial use hit a record 12.9 million tonnes, up 13%. Barley was the only major crop to see stocks decline, down 25% to 940,000 tonnes, while oat stocks rose 14% to 577,000 tonnes. Wheat exports hit a record 29.7 million tonnes, while dry pea and lentil exports climbed 22% and 33%, respectively, according to the Ottawa-based agency.
