Shares of Advanced Micro Devices rose on Tuesday after Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu claimed the company's total addressable market could reach between $2 trillion and $3 trillion in 2030.
Advanced Micro Devices stock advanced 6.7% to $509.84. For comparison, the S&P 500 fell 0.4% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite declined 0.1%.
Investors were piling into the chip designer after Hu said Tuesday that artificial-intelligence demand will drive a total market for AMD's products to around $3 trillion in 2030.
Hu made the comments at the Citi global conference on technology, media, and telecommunications.
"It's really about AI and we do believe this is the most consequential technology transformation," Hu said.
The chief financial officer added that AMD continues to see demand for its graphic processing units, or GPUs, and central processing unit, or CPU.
Hu added that AMD has been increasing the supply of CPUs and that in the second half of the year the CPU business "is going to expand more than" 80% from last year. Hu expects that growth to continue next year.
"This AI super investment cycle is at the very beginning, and over time, we're going to continue to see strong demand for AMD's product," the chief financial officer said.
"It's a very exciting time for AMD," Hu added.
Along with AMD, many other chip makers and designers should benefit from a total addressable market of around $3 trillion.
While AMD stock advanced on Tuesday, Arm Holdings rose 5.8% and Intel gained 10%. Nvidia, which also has CPU exposure, declined 1.8%.
