Volatility in Trade Policies Hurt German Exports in July -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/09/08 12:121212 GMT - The setback for German exports in July were directly caused by volatility in trade policies, the DIHK Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Volker Treier says. Exports declined 0.8% on month after five months of rises. "A relatively weak global economy and an immense surge in Chinese competition are pressuring German exporters," he says. However, exports to the U.S. increased due to the Trump administration's 10% tariff announced July on imports from the European Union. Still, the much-needed boost from improved site conditions in Germany and Europe is still lacking, Treiersays. (edward.frankl@wsj.com)
