Leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin is trading below the $80,000 level, influenced by upcoming US inflation data and increasing expectations of a Fed interest rate hike. Altcoins are showing mixed performance, while Ethereum is moving sideways around the $2,480 level.
However, BitMine President Tom Lee stated that Ethereum has significant upside potential, listing four key catalysts that could support the ETH price.
In a recent interview, Lee stated that the price of ETH could reach approximately $6,000.
The First Catalyst: “CLARITY Act”
The first development Lee highlighted was the CLARITY Act, the most important law expected to clarify the regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in the US.
Lee believes that the passage of the law in September could significantly increase Wall Street’s interest in the crypto market. According to Lee, the removal of regulatory uncertainty could pave the way for larger financial institutions to operate more extensively in the crypto market.
The Second Catalyst: “Waiting Capital!”
Lee’s second catalyst was the unwinding of capital and short positions that had not yet entered the market and were sitting idle, redirecting them back into crypto assets. According to Lee, some investors stayed out of the crypto market after the previous downturn, and the sustained increase in prices could encourage these investors to return.
Lee notes that investors, particularly those expecting a potential bottom in October due to the traditional four-year cycle in the crypto market, may be forced to change their positions sooner if the market remains strong, potentially driving the price up.
The Third Catalyst: “Asian Investors!”
Lee stated that the third important factor was the redirection of Asian capital towards the crypto market. He noted that investors, particularly in Asian markets like South Korea, have recently begun to refocus their attention on crypto assets after previously concentrating on local stocks.
Lee believes this capital inflow could increase demand in the cryptocurrency market, particularly for Ethereum.
The Fourth Catalyst: “Corporate FOMO”
According to Lee, if Ethereum maintains its strong performance until the end of the quarter in September, lagging fund managers may be forced to shift to ETH and other crypto assets in order to improve their performance in the last quarter of the year. This could create a wave of FOMO (fear of missing out) among institutional investors, potentially triggering a rise in the ETH price.
A $6,000 Scenario for Ethereum!
Tom Lee’s $6,000 prediction is based on a calculation regarding Ethereum’s value against Bitcoin. Lee states that if the ETH/BTC ratio rises from current levels to 0.04 and Bitcoin reaches $150,000, Ethereum could reach approximately $6,000.
Lee considered this scenario quite conservative, while also noting that the ETH/BTC ratio rose to approximately 0.08 in 2021. He added that the catalysts he listed could also support the ETH price.
