According to foreign media reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen's resolve to support the bond market is about to be tested. At 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time (23:00 Beijing Time) on Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department will announce the maximum amount of 10- to 20-year U.S. Treasury bonds it plans to repurchase. On September 10, the U.S. Treasury will also disclose the exact amount actually purchased as part of the repurchase program launched in May 2024. Previously, the U.S. Treasury stated that, before November 4, at least $400 million of long-term U.S. Treasuries would be repurchased from the market each time, an increase from the previous $200 million per operation. However, the Treasury still has the discretion to further expand the repurchase scale. The market widely expects that Yellen's actual intervention will ultimately exceed the previously announced repurchase targets.
