Earlier this week, shipping speeds through the Strait of Hormuz slowed as Iran threatened on Monday to retaliate against any new attacks by the United States. According to Kpler data on Tuesday, the number of cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday was 7, compared to 8 the previous day. Iran had previously warned that energy infrastructure in the Gulf region—including U.S. oil and gas-related assets—remains vulnerable. However, traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait increased. Kpler data shows that a total of 29 cargo ships transited the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Monday, up from 17 the previous day. Some vessels might have crossed both straits with their transponders turned off, but these are not included in the statistics.
