According to Xinhua News Agency, the Netherlands Central Bank announced on the 2nd that

from March to August this year, it transferred approximately 86 tons of gold reserves from New York, USA and Ottawa, Canada to London, UK, in order to diversify risk and prepare for crisis response.

The press release from the Netherlands Central Bank stated that about 59 tons of gold were transferred by selling on the New York market and purchasing in the London market. More than 27 tons of gold were physically transported from the USA and Canada to Zeist, Netherlands. An equivalent amount of gold, meeting international market standards, was transferred from Zeist to London.

The Netherlands Central Bank also said that London is globally regarded as an important trading center for physical gold, and the gold stored at the Bank of England is highly liquid, enabling the Netherlands to carry out rapid gold transactions in a crisis. In such situations, gold reserves stored in New York and Ottawa cannot be used as quickly or directly.

According to local media reports, since Trump resumed the presidency in the United States, the Netherlands Central Bank has expressed concerns about the increasingly tense relationship between Europe and the United States, stating that the US could easily block Dutch payment transactions, and has repeatedly called for reducing dependence on the US.

According to data from the Netherlands Central Bank, by the end of 2025, the Netherlands will have gold reserves of 612.4 tons, mainly stored in Zeist (Netherlands), London (UK), New York (USA), and Ottawa (Canada). After this adjustment, 30.8% of the Netherlands’ gold reserves will be stored in Zeist, 32.1% in London, and 18.5% each in New York and Ottawa.
