⑴ German defense company Rheinmetall has announced that it has secured a contract worth 250 million euros to build a modular camp for German soldiers stationed in Lithuania. The facility is expected to accommodate up to 2,000 soldiers.⑵ The camp is scheduled to become operational in mid-August 2027. In addition to construction costs, annual operating and maintenance expenses are estimated at around 40 million euros, to be borne by the German side.⑶ Rheinmetall stated that this order was recorded in the company's accounts in the third quarter and is among the first procurement projects of a broader plan by the German government to provide accommodation for overseas troops.⑷ Further attention should be paid to the progress of supporting infrastructure and logistics systems, and whether this project will stimulate the release of more similar military infrastructure orders.
