Kratos to Provide Spartan J85 Engines to Boeing's JDAM Long Range Program

08:00 AM EDT, 08/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS) said Monday it has allocated its expanded Spartan engine production capacity to provide TDI-J85 engines to Boeing's (BA) Joint Direct Attack Munition, or JDAM, Long Range program. The US Air Force recently awarded Boeing a $75 million undefinitized contract action for the BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit, a precision-guided munition capable of traveling more than 300 nautical miles with a 500-pound-class payload, Kratos said. The J85 engine has been selected to power the munition, the company added. Kratos said it has begun procuring long-lead components for a large Spartan engine production run in 2027 and is executing a three-phase plan to expand manufacturing capacity.
