Deutsche Bank continued to increase its holdings of Strategy shares in the second quarter of 2026. Public filings show that it acquired an additional 90,006 shares during the quarter, bringing its total holdings to 874,925 shares. Based on the disclosure date, this position is estimated to be worth between $76 million and $85 million.

90,006 shares added in Q2

At the end of the first quarter, this German bank held 784,919 Strategy shares. The increase in the second quarter was greater than the 53,215 shares bought in the first quarter, indicating an accelerated allocation pace. In terms of Deutsche Bank’s overall scale, this investment is not large, but the market is more focused on the directional signal it provides.

Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has in recent years shifted from an enterprise software company to a listed company focused on a Bitcoin treasury. The article notes that the company now holds over 840,000 Bitcoin, making it one of the largest publicly listed holders of the cryptocurrency in the world.

For many institutional investors, buying Strategy shares is easier to execute than directly holding Bitcoin. This is because the shares trade on Nasdaq, can be held through traditional clearing and reporting systems, and are easier to include under existing compliance and risk management processes.

Banks prefer indirect exposure

Under European and global banking regulatory frameworks, direct holdings of crypto assets by banks typically face more complex capital, custody, and compliance requirements. In contrast, holding publicly listed shares is a more mature process and better aligns with the internal policies of most large financial institutions.

In absolute terms, the approximately $85 million position is not a major allocation for Deutsche Bank. However, as one of Europe’s systemically important banks, its move to increase its Strategy holdings for two consecutive quarters is still seen by the market as a signal of rising acceptance of Bitcoin-related assets by traditional financial institutions.

Crude oil is "coming back", but refined oil is "not coming back"; the global refining gap is widening.

According to Goldman Sachs, global refined oil exports have declined by about 6 million barrels per day year-on-year, with the Gulf region and Russia contributing three-quarters of the decrease. Unlike crude oil, which can be rerouted, damaged refineries cannot be relocated, and the Gulf region's refined oil exports have only recovered to 40% of pre-war levels. Goldman Sachs expects global refinery utilization rates to recover only by the second half of 2027; based on this, it has more than doubled its forecast for diesel profit margins in 2027.
