Brent crude oil futures rose by $4 per barrel as Iran and the United States made mutual compensation claims, diminishing expectations for a de-escalation of tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Spot gold opened more than $20 lower, hitting a one-and-a-half-week low of $4,431.52 per ounce, down about 0.5%.

Spot gold has just surpassed the $4,440.00/ounce mark, currently quoted at $4,440.80/ounce, down 0.30% on the day; COMEX gold futures main contract is now quoted at $4,491.40/ounce, down 0.85% on the day.

Spot silver fell by 1.02% intraday to $65.63 per ounce; the main COMEX silver futures contract last traded at $66.33 per ounce, down 2.15% intraday.

According to CME "FedWatch": The probability that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged by September is 43.1%, while the probability of a total rate hike of 25 basis points is 56.9%. The probability that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged by October is 29.3%, with a probability of a total rate hike of 25 basis points at 52.5%, and a probability of a total rate hike of 50 basis points at 18.3%.
