Kazakhstan's oil output jumps as Tengiz restores production

ReutersReuters2026/08/10 13:10

- Kazakhstan's oil and gas condensate output rose 40% to 275,000 metric tons, or about 2.08 million barrels per day, on August 9 from 197,000 tons, or 1.49 million bpd, on July 31, as the giant Tengiz oilfield restored production, a source familiar with the latest data said.

Oil production at the Tengiz field rose to 903,000 bpd on August 9 from 454,000 bpd on July 31, and compared with an average of 784,000 bpd in July, the source said.

Kazakhstan's energy ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tengizchevroil (TCO), the Chevron-led CVX.N operator of the Tengiz field, does not comment on production details.

Kazakhstan is restoring crude production after a decline in July because of export restrictions by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), its main oil export route.

The CPC handles more than 80% of Kazakhstan's oil exports, most of which come from the giant Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak fields.

Kazakhstan's oil and gas condensate output hit a record in April at 2.17 million bpd.

The country plans to produce about 98 million tons of oil in 2026, equivalent to just over 2 million bpd, although disruptions at major fields and export restrictions have complicated that goal.
