Sterling Stays in Tight Range Vs Dollar in Absence of Catalysts -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/08/07 09:230923 GMT - Sterling is trading in a tight range against the dollar this week in the absence of fresh policy announcements under Prime Minister Andy Burnham or notable U.K. economic data, Ebury strategist Matthew Ryan says in a note. With Burnham on holiday and parliament in summer recess, the barrage of policy announcements from the new administration has come to a halt, he says. "Next week looks set to be moderately more eventful, with the first estimate of second-quarter GDP growth closely watched on Thursday." Growth likely slowed markedly from the 0.6% registered in the first quarter as the Iran conflict weighs on business confidence and increases imported price pressures, he says. Sterling falls 0.1% to $1.3443. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
