Genesis marks final phase of $95 million Waikaremoana hydro upgrade with Kaitawa stator delivery
Reuters2026/08/04 03:33- Genesis Energy began the final phase of a NZD 95 million Waikaremoana hydro refurbishment with delivery of a new generator stator to Kaitawa.
- Kaitawa’s two-generator replacement program runs through 2027, completing a decade-long upgrade across the Waikaremoana scheme’s three stations.
- The first new generator is expected to lift Kaitawa efficiency about 2.8%, adding 2-2.5 GWh a year, enough to power about 350 homes.
- The Waikaremoana scheme supplies renewable electricity for more than 63,000 homes on average each year across Kaitawa, Tuai, Piripaua.
