Onyx: Layer 3 will be deprecated and shut down by the end of 2026, shifting focus to Onyx Layer 1
Foresight News reported that Onyx Protocol announced that Onyx Layer 3 (XCN Ledger) will be deprecated and shut down on December 31, 2026, and development efforts will shift entirely to Onyx Layer 1.
Onyx stated that this transition will not change XCN itself. The Ethereum ERC-20 contract will remain the primary representation of XCN, and holders will continue to bridge assets between Ethereum and Onyx Layer 1 as needed. As part of this transition, XCN holders will be able to seamlessly bridge their Ethereum-based XCN to Onyx Layer 1, allowing them to participate in staking, applications, and future network features.
