According to ChainCatcher, AIMCo, one of Canada’s largest institutional investment management firms, disclosed in its April 30 regulatory filing that it holds equity worth $219 million in Strategy. This is one of the largest direct investments by a sovereign wealth fund in a crypto “middleware” protocol. AIMCo stated that this move is a strategic deployment toward the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) and the automation of liquidity provision.

The Strategy platform enables institutional investors to access yield opportunities that meet KYC/AML standards, and its governance and equity structure allow it to benefit from transaction fees generated by institutional capital inflows. Analysts believe this is also a defensive hedge by AIMCo against declining returns in traditional fixed income. This investment is expected to serve as a catalyst for other Canadian and international pension funds.

AIMCo manages approximately 160 billion Canadian dollars in assets, and this move demonstrates that large trustees now consider the technical and regulatory risks in the DeFi sector to be manageable. As AIMCo integrates digital asset strategies into its main portfolio, it could trigger a chain reaction in the sovereign wealth domain, driving global capital management in the era of “programmable finance” toward greater transparency and efficiency on decentralized ledgers.

Bokobza, Global Head of Asset Allocation at Société Générale, pointed out that if the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield reaches 5.5%, corporate profit growth will not be sufficient to offset the impact of rising rates on valuations, and the stock market will face substantial pressure. However, he believes that the upcoming rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank will be relatively limited and will not disrupt the current economic cycle.
