According to a new research report released by VanEck on April 3, it predicts that by 2030, the market value of Ethereum L2 will reach $1 trillion. This reflects the industry's belief that this technology has the potential to significantly improve blockchain scalability and efficiency, marking a significant change in the landscape of digital assets and their underlying technologies. The investment institution's analysis evaluated several key dimensions of the emerging L2 ecosystem: transaction pricing, developer experience, user experience, trust assumptions and ecological scale.
According to the report, L2 technologies, especially Optimistic rollup and Zero-knowledge rollup are addressing Ethereum's biggest challenge - scalability. These solutions aim to expand Ethereum's transaction processing capacity without compromising its core attributes of security and decentralization. The analysis points out that EIP-4844 upgrade is a key development introducing "Blob Space", which greatly reduces data publishing costs thus financially benefiting L2 operations. According to this report, cost reduction brought about by EIP-4844 is crucial for improving profitability of L2.
