According to CoinDesk, a proposal by Bitcoin Core client developer Luke Dashjr to "block spam NFTs" was rejected. Luke Dashjr proposed this in September, aiming to update the Bitcoin Core software to effectively use updated data carrying styles and block inscriptions.
Another Bitcoin Core maintainer, Gloria Zhao pointed out that the effort to "stop inscriptions" as "spam" has been rebutted by the argument that "we cannot write code to detect all embedded data".
